Cannot remove norton internet security 2005

Last reply by vet Unsolved. Jebest11 2 Bronze. How do I uninstall Norton Internet Security I purchased two separate retail boxed versions of Norton Internet Security NIS and have them installed on two different computers at my church. Recently, I had to replace a hard drive on one of the computers.

After I reinstalled the NIS software on the new hard drive, I realized that I had mistakenly installed the wrong boxed version, so I had the same software installed on both computers.

I used the Norton uninstall tool to remove the wrong software, and reinstalled the correct software from the Norton installation CD. During the reinstall, I noticed that I was not prompted to enter the a product key. After the successful installation, I checked the product key using the Norton "Help" menu.

The product key still showed the number from the original "incorrect" installation. Apparently the Norton uninstall tool doesn't really do a thorough job of removing NIS. Is there a way to do a complete unistall of NIS ? All forum topics Previous Topic Next Topic.

Had a message a few times something about "you do not have privileges to perform this log on as administrator, but when I click on Nortons it won't let me log on at all.

Post a log if you want me to point out all the norton stuff for you. Another more complicated solution would be to completely format and newinstall your system. Even though you might have deinstalled the Norton-Suite with its own Uninstall-Routine, remains of that programm will stay in your system especially the Firewall-services. I mean it's just the Norton issues I will be fixing and that program is "removed". It shouldn't damage any thing that I need right?

One more thing. When CCleaner makes a back when you correct issues does it back up the whole registry or jus the corrected issue? Where do I find the back up? When I find it do I just double click it and it installs itself? No of course it wont mess anything up. If your not sure about it you can make back ups ccleaner prompts you to before removing them. It lets you choose the location to save the back up. It only makes a back up of corrected issues and to use it you just double click it.

Hope that answered everything. After your remove all the entries your probably going to have to do the issues scan multiple times to get them all Let us know if your problem seems to be gone. You need to be a member in order to leave a comment. Sign up for a new account in our community.
